Incorporating the Maryborough and Hervey Bay Districts

The 2008 Fraser Coast Show will run over two days, Thursday 22 and Friday 23 May, with Friday being the public holiday. Gates will open at 8am, with entertainment and events scheduled all day. The Show Theme is "Regional Unity"

With less than three weeks to go, the Fraser Coast Show is looking like a winner.

We have something for everyone this year, from racing pigs and chariots and chainsaws to beautiful gemstones and orchids.

’With the Equine Influenza crisis over, we’re rolling out a complete horse program,’ said Don Cross, entertainment director. ‘We’re still waiting for to see if the harness racing will go ahead, though. At this point we’re a little light on sponsorship at the moment, so if you can help, please let us know.’

The horse events will include led and ridden events and showjumping, as well as District and Pony Club events. This year also sees the return of the Stockman’s Challenge and the Barrel Race.

The Prime Cattle section also makes a welcome return this year, as the drought forced its cancellation in 2007, and organizers hope to attract strong entries. Other animal sections include the Kennel Club’s Championships, the beauty and colour of the bird entries and the sheep, alpaca and goat display.

For those seeking thrills and spills we have the rides - both old and new - of Sideshow Alley and the excitement of the woodchop and chainsaw competitions.

‘The theme of the Show this year is Regional Unity,’ said Col Horrocks, the Show Society President. ‘We’d like everyone in the Fraser Coast community to get involved in their Show this year and celebrate our region.’

Membership packages are available now at the Show Society’s office at 92 Ellena St, Maryborough, which will allow unlimited entry during the Show. Schedules and entry forms are also available for those who want to show off their hobbies and passions.

However, we will not be pre-selling ride tickets this year - the Showmen’s Guild is no longer offering this discount, and ride tickets must be purchased from the individual ride operators.
